Back in the first centary AD Chester was named Fort Diva a Stronghold created by the Romans next to the River Dee. The structure can still be seen today. Fort Diva quickly became one of the most important settlements in britain.

In the Dark Ages Chester was Raided by the Vikings by sailing their boats down the River Dee.

After the Normans took over Chester William The First created the first Earl of Chester constructing Chester Castle that still stands to this day.

Middle Ages

During The Middle Ages Chester was a wealthy traiding port this was around the time the walls were bulilt that can still be walked around today. During the English Cival War Chester was souronded for 2 years but when food ran out they were forced to surrender.
